Arsenal‘s hierarchy has targeted Everton midfielder as a summer transfer target as manager Arsene Wenger continues to draw up contingency plans for the possible departure of Cesc Fabregas. Arteta, 28, is contracted through 2012 and it is thought that Everton are unwilling to sell. However, Wenger is confident that he can lure the Spanish midfielder to London with the promise of Champions League football.
With Spurs manager Harry Redknapp hinting that he’s likely to make one big signing this summer, reports have surfaced that the target is Sevilla’s Luis Fabiano. Redknapp is said to be willing to bid $26 million for the 29-year-old Brazilian international. Fabiano is in his fifth season at Sevilla and has 17 goals on the season, and 25 in 36 games for Brazil.
Sir Alex Ferguson may elect to make a controversial move for Manchester City star Stephen Ireland this summer. The Man United boss is known to be an admirer of the 23 year old creative playmaker and news that the Irish international could be allowed to leave the club could spark the Old Trafford outfit into making a move for the £12m rated midfielder.
Ferguson would be keen to bring in more flair to his midfield especially as Michael Carrick has had a very patchy season and Paul Scholes is nearing the end of his career at the club. Roberto Mancini may not like the idea of selling to the local rivals but he won’t want to keep hold of an unhappy player and if Man United meet any valuation placed on Ireland then I guess it matters little who stumps up the money.
Stephen Ireland was one of City’s top performers last season but has figured rarely this term due to injury and poor form. Off field matters have not helped either and the talented midfielder would surely not think twice about completing such a move if indeed it became a distinct possibility.
Reports out of Italy suggest that AC Milan is planning to end Dimitar Berbatov’s nightmare stint at Manchester United. The Serie A club intend to make a $30 million move this summer for the out-of-favor Bulgarian international. Old Trafford insiders claim that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has lost faith in Berbatov and is ready to offload the 29-year-old striker.
