Rooney sparked talk of a Manchester United exit last week when he contradicted Sir Alex Ferguson’s claims that he had an ankle injury, and it is understood he is now refusing to discuss a contract extension.  Rooney, 24, has little more than 20 months to run on his current deal and, amid claims he has fallen out with Ferguson, it is reported that United could cash in.

Wayne Rooney could be set to swap Manchester United for Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain. The England striker has been in poor form since the World Cup and has even been dropped by Sir Alex Ferguson for a number of Premier League games this season after details about his private life emerged in the press. Now, according to Spanish daily AS , Rooney has become so frustrated with the scrutiny of his private life that he has asked his representatives to call a halt to negotiations with United over a new contract. The club were preparing to offer Rooney a new deal after the World Cup, to improve on his £90,000-a-week wages, but so far no progress has been made and it is now understood to be Rooney who is holding things up, not United. Chelsea have sounded out Real Madrid defender Pepe about a move to Stamford Bridge, according to reports in Spain.
And the Blues may be willing to wait two years to snare the Portugal centre half on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old is struggling to agree a new deal at the Bernabeu and has even been linked with a shock move to Barcelona in recent days.

Kaka is set to be offered a January move to England after failing to live up to expectations at Real Madrid. Inter Milan had looked the most likely destination for the Brazil playmaker, but the Italians are believed to be targeting Karim Benzema instead. Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is a confirmed admirer of the 28-year-old Kaka, while Manchester City and Liverpool have also been identified as potential destinations.

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho will not stand in the way of the potential transfer of Brazilian playmaker Kaka to UEFA Champions League holders Inter, according to AS.

Rumours of interest from the Italian giants have continued since the summer and it is reported that they will step up attempts to sign him during the winter transfer window.
