In highlighting the made-by-hand traditions of America, designer Ronnie Fieg already touched upon sneaker brand New Balance’s Made In USA collection, with varsity jacket specialist GOLDEN BEAR, and finally something be old and new in his PENDLETON Wool 6-Panel Snapback Caps with California’s Quintin. A total of six designs, three featuring PENDLETON wool appliqués on the crown and under brim. The other three to include PENDLETON appliqués on brim’s top. Because each of the PENDLETON wool sections were cut from different fabrics. The slight inconsistencies actually make each cap an one-of-the-kind design. Limited to only 60 hats per design, all are now available at Ronnie Fieg’s Kith boutiques in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Jordans as a political statement? That’s precisely Freehand Profit‘s intent in dismantling a pair of his prized Air Jordan IV Fusion Laser and transforming the parts into a wearable gas mask. Part of his Branding Wars series, in which the artist transforms Jordan and Nike shoes as well as Gucci handbags into gas mask art pieces, the project confronts our consumerist culture (and the artist’s own materialistic impulses) at the same time it reminds us that we’re still a nation at war. Even while we obsess over a pair of sneakers, there are men and women right now fighting over much bigger stakes. Additionally, the gas mask is a nod to the artist’s background as a graffiti artist, whose weapon of choice in bombing cityscapes was a can of spray paint. Click through for more looks.

Bringing the release of The SB Chronicles: Volume 1 a step closer, SB has just released the official trailer for the video. Last week we got an initial taste of the movie-making talent on hand with the release of the teaser video, and now, with the official trailer, we get a taste of the actual skating. There aren’t any start to finish hammers in the teaser, but it does look like we can expect a high-caliber performance from the SB squad. Anytime a big-budget company like SB puts out a skate flick, expectations are high. And from the looks of things, most won’t be disappointed. The scenery is great – both travel and skatespots, and there is a solid mix of skating – Chet Childress slaying pools, Stefan Janoski and Wieger Van Wageningen on technical duty, and Youness Amrani with a back lip on a down-flat kink to start things off – people are rightfully excited. Former Montreal Impact MVP David Testo announced yesterday that he is gay.

The midfielder, who also played for Columbus Crew and the Vancouver Whitecaps, was cut from the Impact’s roster a month ago, and said in his statement that he regrets not coming out publicly earlier. He has apparently struggled with the issue for his entire career.

This may not appear particularly newsworthy to anyone to not obsessed with the intimate details of footballers lives (yay us!). But the story has attracted wider attention than that of say, Anton Hysen, because Testo’s sexuality was apparently common knowledge among his friends, colleagues and even his club prior to signing him.

The dressing room reaction is frequently cited as a reason why gay players prefer to keep their sexuality a secret. Fortunately, as time passes and the species evolves, this attitude among footballers seems to be less prevalent. If it wasn’t for a certain section of fans and their neanderthal attitudes, we might expect to see more elite professionals coming out in the next few years.

Sadly we think there’s some way to go before this happens. Especially since it seems that some people still have a problem with black guys playing football.

Sigh.

A lasting friendship over the last two decades, adidas Originals celebrated the enduring bond it has with Run D.M.C. with a special release last night at adidas Originals SoHo store. The centerpiece of the evening was the Run D.M.C. x adidas Originals Superstar 80′s, emblazoned with the numeral 1986 as a tribute to the year Run D.M.C. released the single “My adidas”. However, hip-hop fans and sneaker fiends flocked to the New York City location for one other reason, an opportunity to meet Darryl”DMC” McDaniels himself. There in spirit also was the late Jam Master Jay, represented by his sons in attendance. With Mick Boogie on deck, spinning a mix of classic hip-hops and 80′s hits, the cordial evening hit a high note when Darryl”DMC” McDaniels took the “centerstage” with 6th Sense, Tanya Morgan, and Nitty Scott MC for an impromptu performance.

Since 1995, New York’s 10.DEEP has been covering all the bases — the worlds of hip hop, skate, punk, and graffiti all exert a strong influence within the brand. A look at the just released video preview of their Holiday 2011 lookbook, shot and directed by Andinh Ha, reveals another solid season that should cover all your wardrobe needs. The diverse styling evokes both college campuses and gritty back alleys, with V-neck sweaters and duffle coats interspersed with camouflage cargos and sateen baseball jackets.
