From its humble beginnings as a basketball sneaker, Nike Blazer has come a long way and will be turning ACG for the next Spring/Summer 2012 season. Dubbed the Outdoor Pack, its intentions are easy to see. Combining hiking boot details on the mid cut sneakers, the top lace loops have been changed to metal lace hooks. Round contrasting shoe laces and perforated Swoosh play the part in transforming the footwear into trekking boot style. Behind the sneakers, the ACG logo is prominently embroidered on the heel panel and matching heel tab replaces traditional leather parts. From an illustrative look of the man and his life by artist Cody Hudson to LeBron’s first dunk, narrated by his high school athletics teacher James Donald. nonnative has included New Balance footwear in a number of past seasons’ releases, including the H710 hiker in FW2009, and last fall’s CM1500, both done in rich, earthy-toned suede. For this fall, nonnative – the Japanese label that has carved out a niche with elegant interpretations and re-cuts of classic pieces – has turned to the CM997. The CM997 is arguably the pefect example of “classic” NB: the early 1980′s running bloodline shows through well, but it doesn’t come off as a contrived retro shoe. And the colorway has been executed admirably: starting with the earth tone palette of it’s past New Balance collaborations, nonnative has riffed on a “Dune” theme – with desert-sand inspired upper colors, and the ABZORB midsole done in a Persian blue. Overall, a beautiful mesh/suede/full grain upper that will appeal to any fan of New Balance classics, and quite a grab given the exclusive respect nonnative is building. The jet-setter bunch in Miami has a new shopping destination this coming holiday season. Introducing UNKNWN, a lifestyle boutique curated by LeBron James. Catering to the fine-living demographic of Miami and surrounding areas, the new store will be within the trendy Aventura Mall on Biscayne Boulevard. Scheduled for opening on Friday, December 16th, the store will carry items from DRx Romanelli, Engineered Garments, Stussy, OriginalFake, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and a far flung assortment of top brands. Needless to say, there will also be store exclusive editions as well as special collaborations with King James himself.

Pop-up store? Please, that retail concept is so yesterday… The thing that is “in” this holiday shopping season is pop-up malls.  Stacked neatly, dozens of refitted shipping containers are now part of BOXPARK, the world’s first pop-up shopping mall. Situated in Shoreditch, East London, and just opposite of the new Shoreditch High Street Station, the mall will house some fifty well-known retailers from the realms of fashion, arts, crafts, and lifestyle, including action sports brand etnies.  The temporary location will offer the latest footwear and apparel collections from etnies, as well as way for the brand to connect with its fans. etnies at London’s BOXPARK officially opens this Saturday, December 3rd.

For the upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 collection season, N.Hoolywood designer Daisuke Obana took inspiration from legendary American graphic designer Saul Bass. Bass is known for his work between 50′s until 80′s and his notable designs include United Airlines logo, Kleenex logo as well as artwork for West Side Story musical and Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho posters. This collection is entitled Title Back and it focuses on film posters made around the 50′s and 60′s. Tight silhouettes and use of vivid color creates a somewhat a retro feel. Several pieces also feature tape-like strip prints, which is one of Bass’s trademark style during that period.
