Altitude makes for interesting training sites

As the World Cup quickly approaches, national teams around the world are using various strategies to prepare for a tournament where the majority of games will be played at more than 2,000 feet above sea level. The United States is taking a hands off approach, training in Princeton, N.J., altitude 98 feet. England is heading to a training camp in Austria at about 2,400 feet above sea level. Italy is doing its final preparations at a ski resort well over a mile above sea level. How much any of the special attention will pay off remains to be seen. In all World Cups, stamina is important, but it is likely even more so this year, considering the altitude.
